NINE TOLL PLAZAS IN THE NORTH NOW FULLY ELECTRONIC

ETC Sg.DuaAll toll transactions at nine toll plazas up north on the North-South Expressway (NSE) is now conducted electronically via PLUSMiles cards, Touch 'n Go cards or SmartTAGs beginning 12:00 pm on 30 November. These toll plazas are Hutan Kampung, Alor Setar Utara, Alor Setar Selatan, Pendang, Gurun, Sungai Petani Utara, Sungai Petani Selatan, Bertam and Sungai Dua.

PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) Managing Director, Dato' Noorizah Hj Abd Hamid said, "The move is part of an effort to encourage highway users to pay toll via electronic toll collection system which is easier and faster."

"Among the initiatives to encourage more users utilizing the nine toll plazas to pay toll electronically is the sale of RM5 PLUSMiles cards (with pre-loaded RM5 value) until 31 December," Noorizah elaborated.

In addition, class 1 vehicles users paying toll electronically at the 9 toll plazas will also be able to enjoy 10 percent toll rebate between 30 November until 31 January 2016.

According to Noorizah, users around Penang and Kedah are able to top-up their cards at 1,000 reload locations. This includes ATM machines, 24-hour and convenience stores, hypermarkets, petrol stations, to name a few.

For the record, the full electronic toll collection initiative was successfully carried out at other PLUS-operated highways such as Sultan Iskandar Building (2008), Linkedua highway (in stages since 2009), Kempas Toll Plaza (2014), Batu Tiga and Sungai Rasau (November 2014), Mambau and Lukut Toll Plazas on the Seremban-Port Dickson Highway (SPDH) in June 2015, Bukit Kayu Hitam and Jitra Toll Plazas (September 2015), Lunas and Kubang Semang on the Butterworth-Kulim Expressway (September 2015) and Penang Bridge (September 2015).

"Paying toll electronically is much faster and smoother as compared to cash as a SmartTAG and Touch 'n Go lane can cater up to 1,000 and 600 toll transactions per hour as compared to 180 transactions via Cash Exit Lanes," Noorizah explained.
